I learned to knit in November of 2001 over a long Thanksgiving holiday. I knew I was going to have some spare time on my hands so I stopped off at a craft store on my way home from work and picked up 12 skeins of Burgandy Red Heart and a book showing different knitting stitches for an afghan - I had crocheted many an afghan, so this was my natural place to start, though I never did finish it. Armed with a pair of #8 metal Susan Bates straight needles and enthusiam, I sat down that evening to teach myself to knit. To my surprise, I found that the book I’d bought didn’t show how to cast on or knit (or purl, either, but I didn’t know at the time that I needed that one!)
So, instead, I sought out an e-education and learned to knit online. This site seeks to return the favor … to other new knitters.
I have a couple patterns published at Knitty.com and another one for a water bottle sling in the book Knit Wit. Come on, you know you need a water bottle sling!
