…then bought it and gave it to me with a “Is this nice yarn? Would you make me a scarf?”. Yes!
I’m doing a basketweave pattern with a touch of blue on each end of 4 1/2 feet of gray. The yarn is Adrienne Vittadini Sara - 70% wool, 20% alpaca and 10% nylon. Really soft but the stitches don’t come out very even and this will need some ironing. But otherwise a perfect at lunch in the car in the rain project.
I finished the back and one side of the front of the Noro cardigan. It’s just flying - 18 sts/4″ - I really like that gauge. Not too bulky, not to … what? … fine? What do we call the small gauges? Anyhow, you know what I mean.
Yeah, it’s FRIDAY! I feel like I earned this one.
NPR just played a clip of Mr. Rogers talking and I suddenly found myself with tears in my eyes. The last few weeks, dealing with nasty old women at work, nasty old women at the yarn shop, and nasty people in general, I just want to curl up on the couch under a blanket and listen to Mr. Rogers councel me in the virtues of sharing and being nice and fall into his make believe world. We’ll miss him.
I love the coast. It’s so peaceful and far away from daily stress. I found the best bead shop on the road between Newport and Waldport on Saturday. He had a room full of trays, all over tables and shelves, thousands of different types, some glass beads from the 30s, 40s, and 50s and lots of buttons (which he gave me for half price!) I’ll post pictures later (as well as the address) - there were some really unusual things there.
Sunday the weather was perfect, barely any wind and the sun was shining. The little bug in the sky in this picture is a coast guard helicopter. Hello! we waved and then went back to our books. It was a really really nice day. (Ugh, I want to go back!)
Happily, Friday before we left the mailman brought me the Noro project I bought from eBay. It was the perfect pick-me-up. The colors are very natural, even woodsy, and of course the silk/wool blend is so soft. It’s like magic the way those colors unfold as you knit. And, let me say again as I’ve said in the past, Debbie Bliss is a genius. The body of pattern is knitted sideways with the shaping done in short rows. There’s also some crochet trim, which will be fun when I get to that. I’ve already finished the back so it won’t be long!

This sweater is really too warm to wear in Oregon. It’s so soft though and very floppy. If it weren’t so bulky it would be a great weekend movie watching snuggle up sweater. Here’s hoping this winter is a cold one!
