In Local News…There’s a new yarn store in town — Fiber Arts Northwest!

– UPDATE: This store has since closed –

Along with a large collection of spinning wheels, looms, dyes, and a fantastic selection of books and bamboo needles, Valerie carries only the best in yarn - Manos, Plymouth Turino Silk, Rowan Calmer and Felted Tweed (I don’t know of any other place in the city that carries this gorgeous and versatile yarn), Merino Frappe, fancy balls of Skacel, blends of wool/flax and wool/silk/mohair and many others. There are also pure silks and cottons, ready for dyeing. These aren’t just yarns, these are art supplies. I guess that’s why she named it Fiber Arts Northwest.

Thanks Sue for telling me about this place! I’m thinking about taking one of her classes on either weaving, spinning or felting (or all three!)

Happy knitting people! I’m off to the coast to rest and recharge.

I don’t seem to be having as much fun with knitting as I used to

I can’t seem to find anything that holds my interest. I knitted Bonne Marie’s bucket hat this weekend - it went very fast. I think I’m going to rip out the brim and do it over in moss stitch because no amount of steaming blocking pinning or ironing has been able to tame the roll of the stockinette stitch alpaca it’s made of. I still have one more giant sock to go on my fuzzy feet but everytime I look at it, I think of black hands (from the yarn) and I’m put off. Bob’s felted clogs just need the last outer sole sewn up and then they are ready for the wash, but I just can’t get myself to focus on it.

What is going on? Is it the late winter doldrums? Bob and I are headed to the coast this weekend and I’m looking forward to the long drive and the knitting that always goes along with that; I just need to find an interesting project to take…

Another new knitter breaks through!

My friend Marti, who is taking her first knitting class at Northwest Wools. told me this morning that she had a break though last night which has her very excited. Another new knitter breaks through! Yea Marti!

I’ve had a good day today, too. I finished the sole on one of Bob’s soon-to-be-felted clogs at lunch while listening to NPR discuss the appeal of the Simpsons and birds tweet tweeting in the trees. I absolutely love spring.

My plan over the next two weeks is to knock out these lingering WIPs - there are so many. I’m shooting for one completely project every 3 days - won’t I look productive! Only you will know that I’m just a procrastinator with a sudden spurt of sewing-up-madness. Ready, set, go!
