Nancy from Rowan #29

Christmas 2003 Project Three: ‘Nancy’ for Laura

This is my sister Laura’s sweater, my first cardigan! It’s made from Rowan Wool/Cotton and has three color intarsia flowers all over it. This one qualifies as the biggest pain in the ass because of the many many ends that needed weaving in - 6 for each flower (a word of advice: no matter how much you hate it, weave those ends in as you go!). But it was well worth it and fun to see it taking shape. It’s very tailored with lots of shaping and with the accent colors it will look good with lots of different cloths. And it’s very soft. The Wool/Cotton doesn’t feel that soft in the ball but when it’s worked up, it’s feels buttery. Now, hopefully, all those little ends will stay put through some wear…

This sweater was for my sister Laura for Christmas 2002. It’s made of Rowan wool cotton which shows off stitches really well and is even more soft knitted up. My biggest lesson from this sweater is “weave in the ends as you go!” Really. Do not wait until the end. Do not pass go.

Weave in your ends!

In knitting news, I just finished my last Christmas sleeve today - hurray!!! I’m doing intarsia with many many ends, thousands - no - hundreds of thousands of them! I literally spent all weekend weaving them in. I wish I could go back in time to Past Jamie and explain to her the importance of weaving in those ends as you go along. I would say, “Please Past Jamie, I’m begging you, take the time to do this. You have no idea how awful it’s going to be Dec 7 and 8 if you don’t.” I was offering Eva money to do it for me and trying to bribe Bob with dinners and backrubs, but to no avail. Oh the desperation!

Alright, enough of that, huh! At least I’m finished with it now and on to finishing!

Christmas Secrets

 Sometimes animated graphics are fun.

I’m knitting something (shh! It’s Christmas) with tiny little needles and the luxury Rowan Wool Cotton. It’s a little intarsia project and I just have to say that knitting this is more like creating a piece of art. There is something to be said about knitting really good yarn with rich colors on bamboo needles. I think there’s even a different scent to the yarn that floats up from my happy little fingers. It’s also nice to be working with little needles again - the fat ones (even the 9s) make me feel like I’m in a hurry. I’m not sure why.

Are you tired yet of the little guy above? He’s sort of a busy-body. Very agile, though. If you want, you can make him stop.

Miss the dancing? Start him back up.
