An update from my original note on the offensive KnitNet article about online knitting advice…
This article has changed since I first ran across it. The writer had originally used terms like “bozo” and “fool” to describe those who “dole out advice” for free (”Any fool can put up a web site…”). What you’re reading now is a very PC version of what was originally written.
Alison articulated well what I think what we all felt in reading that article and Anne even wrote the editor. Bravo, ladies, though the article remains, your outrage at least made them tone down their insults.
I learned to knit online - from the very bozos that I link to all over my site. If it weren’t for you lovely bozos, I would have been stuck many, many times and would not be nearly as enthusiastic about knitting. I am so grateful that you’ve shared your vast experience and knowledge with me.
Another bozo
Update: Ouch KnitNet! You’ve really alienated a lot of your readers - an online community that could have been some of your biggest promoters. See the latest hullabaloo. This is a shame, really, as I hate to see fighting among the ranks of knitters (as the KnitNet folks are knitters too), however, the cool part is how much support there is for those who do put up their personal web sites, promoting knitting and sharing their successes and failures.

Bozo? Hahahaha! I think I know who the bozo is, and it’s spelled k-n-i-t-n-e-t. Pfffft.
